Sometimes the best support comes from people who truly understand what you are going through. Dialysis support groups bring together patients who share similar challenges, fears, and triumphs. Research shows that patients who participate in support groups have better treatment adherence, lower rates of depression, and improved quality of life.
We hold monthly support group meetings at our dialysis centers. Sessions are facilitated by our social workers and feature discussions on different topics each month. Light refreshments (kidney-friendly, of course!) are provided.
For patients who cannot attend in person, we maintain an online support community where you can connect with fellow patients, ask questions, and share your journey. Our social workers moderate the group to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Ask any nurse or your social worker at your Avitus center about upcoming support group meetings. Family members and caregivers are also welcome — we have dedicated sessions for them as well. Your first step is simply showing up.
